What exactly is AR coating and is it worth the extra money spent when buying your glasses? First of all AR doesn’t stand for Augmented Reality, although it could when it comes to not having it on your glasses.

Anti-reflective coating is applied to either the outside or inside of lenses depending on whether you are choosing a clear prescription lens or prescription sunglasses. The benefits of having a good anti-reflective coating on your lenses are:

More light passing through the lens and optimizing your visual acuity with less distractions especially at night

People can see your beautiful eyes and your expressions instead of themselves in your glasses

Higher grades of anti-reflective coatings also include treatments that help them repel water and oil

Can block blue light emissions for those in front of computers for long hours

AR coatings help to protect your eyes from UV rays

Extending the life of your lenses because they are more scratch resistant

Years ago anti-reflection coatings were more of a pain than they were worth. There were problems with peeling, scratches and needing to clean them.

Today’s anti-reflective coatings are strong and durable. They are not a coating on the outside of the lens that in time scratches off, but are baked into the lens matrix itself.

If you are using a high-index lens because of a strong prescription it is advisable to have a good anti-reflective treatment as high index lenses are much more prone to reflections then plastic or polycarbonate lenses. No matter what the lens is made of you will be smart to have an AR coating and be glad you did!

It is best to consult with your eye care professional to help you decide which AR Coating is best for your lifestyle and needs.

We have lenses with AR Coatings from Zeiss and Essilor!

Here at Durham Eyeglass Company we can help you with designer frames and one of a kind DURM frames only available here. Our frames are designed here in the USA and lenses are cut on-site!

Women that wear glasses and makeup at the same time know what a pain it can be. We would like to share with you some makeup tips for girls with glasses!

Concealer works well if you have dark circles under your eyes and your glasses prescription magnifies your eyes. Also, depending on the frame it can cast a shadow and a concealer can take care of that. On the other hand some prescriptions can minify the size of your eyes. If that is the case, it is a good idea to accentuate your eyes to make them appear larger.

After you have prepped that area next is to try keep your eyelids bright. The makeup team over at LorealParis.com said, “When it comes to shadow, the lighter and more neutral the color on the lid, the better,” noting that dark shades will, “magnify dark undertones around the eyes, causing them to look tired and swollen.” They also recommended using a shimmery accent right in the middle of the lid and a highlighter on the brow bone for maximum brightness and openness.

Next tip is to use an eyeliner that is lighter in color than your frames. It is also recommended that the thicker the frame, the thicker the liner so that your glasses frame does not overpower your beautiful eyes.

The next step is to choose an eye shadow that compliments the color of your eyes. Therefore, choose a shade that goes well with the color of your eyes.

A nice tip is to use white eyeliner on your water line which will give you the illusion of having larger eyes. Additionally, use an eyelash curler so that your lashes are away from the lenses and so that they appear larger, especially if you are near-sighted and have a lens that makes your eyes look smaller.

Final tip is to try wearing a transparent setting powder. This will stop your foundation color from coming off onto your glasses!

Here at Durham Eyeglass Company we recommend choosing a great anti-reflective coating so that your gorgeous eyes are not being obscured by light reflections.
